What types and forms of media exist?

The intention of this subject is to provide students with an insight into and practical hands on experience of Media Studies. Students who have an interest in Journalism, Marketing, Film and Television Productions, Sound Engineering and film as Narrative may be attracted to join Media Studies. The subject’s goal is to help students to understand that all media is constructed and what they see at the cinema, on television, in newspapers, magazines, on the radio and Internet, are not representations of reality but “re-presentations of reality”. Throughout this course students should become equipped with the skills to discern the truth from the re-presentation of reality that they encounter everyday through various forms of media. Media Studies provide students with an insightful and practical hands on experience with the media. Students should become equipped with the necessary critical skills to discern the truth from the representation of reality that they encounter everyday through various forms of media. Units of work studied may include: Advertising and Marketing; Trailers; The Film Industry; Video Games; Australian Television; Short Film
