This unit contains aspects of Chemical and Physical Sciences

What makes Materials useful? What are materials made of? Can energy be created or destroyed? What forces exist and what do they do? What energy transformations are occurring around us? How do mechanical systems and processes make our lives easier?

By the end of this unit students will be able to: identify elements in the Periodic Table including their name and symbol; understand basic particle theory and relate to the structure of solids, liquids and gases; differentiate between metals and non-metals; gain a knowledge of a variety of materials and their uses related to their structures; understand the laws of conservation of energy; identify various forms of energy including light, sound, electrical and kinetic; identify various forces as pushes, pulls , or twists; and how to investigate examples of energy and forces in a system.
