English at Brauer College builds students' abilities to read, write, speak, and think critically. Subjects span literature, language analysis, and creative writing, preparing students for further study and effective communication in all fields. The study of English helps young people develop the knowledge and skills needed for education, training and the workplace. It helps them become ethical, thoughtful, informed and active members of society. In this light English is a compulsory study from years 7 to 12.
What to Choose
In Year 8 (level B) all students will study English with the same teacher for the entire year. This will be a continuation from what happens in year 7. This means that they will not have to choose their English option from the vertical curriculum offerings in year 8.
In Year 9 (level C) English will be offered as a core unit. In Year 10 (level D), students will be able to select their English level based on their teachers recomendation.
VCE English
In Year 11 students must study 11 VCE English and either 12 VCE English or 12 VCE Literature in Year 12. VCE Literature may also be included in the students program in addition to VCE English as one of the optional VCE units.
