Prerequisites

A high level of achievement in two Year 7 Mathematics units (i.e. AusVELS Level 7.0) and an excellent work ethic.

Full Description

Students will be able to: explain how to solve a problem; have an understanding of the use of integers involving the four processes; be able to solve problems involving fractions, decimals and percentages, including those requiring converting and comparing, and judge the reasonableness of results using techniques such as rounding; describe and use generalisations of the index laws with positive integral indices; solve problems involving the use of rates and ratios; create, solve and interpret linear equations including those using realistic contexts using algebraic and graphical techniques; plot graphs of linear functions and use these to find solutions of equations including using ICT; compare theoretical and experimental probabilities and use tree diagrams; calculate the surface area and volume of a variety of 3D shapes; and represent scale factors, draw and read maps, and use compass bearings.

Note: This is an accelerated unit designed to provide a challenge to students of high mathematical aptitude. Successful completion of this unit will allow students to undertake MACX1 Accelerated 9 in Semester 2.�
