Unit Outline

Year 8 Art is creative hands on and full of exciting projects where you can express your ideas and develop your artistic skills. In this subject, you will explore different art styles and techniques while creating artworks including Pop Art paintings, Cubist ceramic masks, realistic facial drawings, watercolour artworks, mosaics, street art pieces and lino prints. If you enjoy being creative, experimenting with materials, learning about artists and making unique artworks then Year 8 Art is the subject for you.

Full Description

Students will learn how artists use different materials, techniques and processes to create powerful and creative artworks. They will explore how to combine art elements and principles to design unique artworks with meaning and purpose. Throughout the Semester, students will plan, develop and document their ideas through sketches, annotations and visual planning in their art journal. They will create a range of exciting two dimensional and three dimensional artworks using different art materials and techniques. Students will also build confidence using art vocabulary to discuss and reflect on traditional and contemporary artworks, while analysing how artists use materials, techniques, art elements and art principles to communicate ideas and create visual impact.

Note: This unit will extend the skills, techniques and knowledge beyond those taught at Year 7 level.
